120 – Sweet Sorrow

‘And that’s why Muni can’t stand the sight of spiders now.’ laughed Elyta, and Iidara laughed with her while imagining his expression and reactions. She had told the demoness about some of the things they had done to find undisclosed object, and how they met Coëllo along the way while leaving out certain parts and keeping their supposed clients deliberately vague, which would have been expected.
Iidara wiped the tears from her eyes and wasn’t surprised by now to see Tarrence show nothing more than an amused smile on his face. ‘I would normally distrust someone who doesn’t laugh, but it fits you.’ she said, and held out her nearly empty wine glass to him because she was in no state to pour some herself. And she liked being served by him. She found some comfort in it for no apparent reason. ‘I’m pretty sure it’s in your blood.’
He filled her glass. ‘To me, that is a compliment.’
She took a sip and grinned. ‘I’m sure it is.’
Elyta turned and sat a little back against Iidara’s shoulder, and smirked at him. ‘One thing about his demeanour, it has an effect of people sometimes confiding in him. Like Set-, I mean our current client, who let slip he wants to use what we find, or fail to find, to humiliate his boss somewhere in the upper ranks and take her place because he doesn’t like taking orders from her. Calling her a meddling old hag, disguising herself as a young woman while acting like a child is certainly not a flattering thing to say, especially when he’s practically an old geezer himself compared to us. Good thing for him only his loyal personal secretary knows about this and would never talk about our classified work and his true intentions.’
Iidara pulled her back against her and wrapped one arm around her. ‘Sounds like that fossil could use a good smack upside his head.’
Elyta groaned softly. ‘We’ve requested support several times but he uses an excuse related to her to deny it every time. I’m sure he’s going to use that to shift the blame of our failure onto her.’ she said and sighed. ‘I’m glad we work out here in the field, and not in such a dishonourable back-stabbing environment where they keep their motives and weapons constantly concealed in their cowardly ways.’ She held up her empty glass to Tarrence. ‘Some more please. To toast to our gracious and lovely host, whom I hope will never have to deal with such matters.’ Iidara giggled and held out her glass as well, Tarrence filled both, and joined the toast.
A drop of wine fell in Elyta’s neck from Iidara’s lip when the sipped from her glass, and she licked it up gently with the tip of her tongue. ‘Such a nice taste.’ she whispered in Elyta’s ear.
Elyta giggled. ‘Those are flirting words.’
Iidara giggled with her. ‘Don’t blame me for using an opportunity.’
Elyta pat Iidara’s leg through her dress. ‘You’re talking to a succubus, it’s what we do.’ she said, then smiled at Tarrence, who sipped his wine in relaxation. ‘Or what I used to do before.’
Iidara smirked a little deviously at Tarrence. ‘I haven’t met someone who could tame a succubus before. I’m tempted to see what that’s like.’
Tarrence lifted a corner of his mouth. ‘It’s having all your desires fulfilled solely by that one special person.’
‘But if I could tempt either of you, it wouldn’t be the real thing.’ said Iidara, then giggled. ‘Although I’m sure it would still have been a fulfilling experience.’
Elyta turned her head to look at Iidara. ‘Judging from what I’ve seen, you have no complaints about popularity and I’m sure you’ll find your own special person.’
‘I think I’ll have to drink to that for now.’ said Iidara, took a gulp from her glass and held it out again to Tarrence. ‘In the meantime, tell me more of your adventures and serve me in the little way that I’m allowed.’
